About the App

Smart Road Recorder is a mobile app that uses your phone's camera to record cycling trips, motorcycle rides and car journeys.

While recording video, the app can also track your route, speed, time and location. Videos and travel data are saved directly on your phone.

No account is required. No login is required. Your journey data stays under your control.

Local Storage - Videos, photos, GPS routes and journey information are stored locally on your phone by default. The app does not depend on cloud storage and does not require you to upload recordings to a server.

Before You Start

Check Your Phone:

  • Make sure the camera is working properly
  • Location services are enabled
  • The phone has enough free storage
  • The battery is sufficiently charged
  • No other app is using the camera or microphone

For long recording sessions, connect your phone to a car charger or power bank.

Mount Your Phone Securely:

  • Bicycle: Attach it firmly to the handlebar or another stable position.
  • Motorcycle: Use a shock-resistant and anti-drop mount.
  • Car: Mount it where it does not block your view or interfere with airbags.

App Permissions

When you first use the app, it may request the following permissions:

  • Camera - Used to record road videos and take photos.
  • Location - Used to record your route, speed and location.
  • Microphone - Used only when audio recording is enabled.
  • Photos or Storage - Used to save, read and manage videos and photos stored on your phone.

These permissions do not require you to create or log in to an account. If you previously denied a permission, open: Phone Settings → Apps → Smart Road Recorder → Permissions

Start Recording

  1. Mount your phone securely.
  2. Open Smart Road Recorder.
  3. Check the camera view and adjust the angle.
  4. Turn on location services.
  5. Confirm that enough local storage is available.
  6. Wait for GPS positioning to complete.
  7. Turn audio recording on or off as needed.
  8. Tap the red Record button.
  9. Confirm that recording status is displayed.
  10. Start cycling or driving.

Do not operate the phone while riding or driving.

Stop and Save a Recording

  1. Stop your bicycle, motorcycle or car in a safe location.
  2. Tap the Record button to stop.
  3. Wait for the app to finish saving the files locally.
  4. Open Local Files to view your recordings and photos.
  5. Back up important files.

Do not force-close the app, restart the phone or disconnect storage while files are being saved. Doing so may damage the recording.

Managing Local Files

Open Local Files to view recordings saved on your phone.

Video Files - A video record may include: video thumbnail, video duration, recording location, start time, end time, and recording status.

Photo Files - View photos captured during your journey, including road scenes and travel memories.

File Actions:

  • Play videos
  • View photos
  • Export files to your phone gallery
  • Share files with other apps
  • Back up files to a computer or external drive
  • Delete unwanted files

Deleted files may not be recoverable. Back up important files before deleting them.

GPS Route Tracking

The app uses your phone's GPS to record your route. GPS data is stored locally and does not require cloud upload.

Route accuracy may be affected by:

  • Tunnels
  • Underground parking areas
  • Dense city buildings
  • Mountains or weak signal areas
  • Battery-saving mode
  • System restrictions on location access

GPS speed and route data are provided for travel records only. They do not replace your vehicle's speedometer, a professional navigation device or a safety system.

To protect your personal information:

  • Delete recordings and routes you no longer need.
  • Avoid sharing complete routes that reveal your home address.
  • Check videos for faces and license plates before sharing.
  • Be careful when publishing regular commuting routes.
  • Back up important files to a device you control.
  • Export files before uninstalling the app.
  • Manually transfer recordings before changing phones.

No-login access does not guarantee that your phone is completely secure. Use a screen lock, device encryption and trusted backup storage to protect locally saved files.

Do I need to create an account?
No. The app supports use without registration or login.
Are videos uploaded automatically?
No. Core recording features use local storage. Videos, photos and route data are not automatically uploaded to the cloud simply because you record a journey.
Can I use the app without internet access?
Yes. When GPS and system permissions are available, core recording and local storage features can work without internet access. Map display and third-party sharing may require a connection.
Can I recover my recordings after changing phones?
Because files are stored locally on the original phone, they are not automatically restored through an account. Export or back up important files before changing phones.
